Soul Eater

Plot: The story Soul Eater is about an academy that's for meisters and weapons. The job of a meister is to use their partnered weapon to collect ninety-nine evil souls and one soul of a witch, so that their weapons become a death-scythe that will be used by their principal, Shinigami-Sama.

The series revolves around three different teams: Maka and her partner Soul; the son of Shinigami-sama Death the Kidd and Liz and Patti; and Black Star and his partner Tsubaki. All three of them must defend Death City from the evil and insanity that lurk everywhere from the evil witches to even themselves.

Art:

The studio that directed and animated Soul Eater was Bones (which has also done other well known series such as, Wolf's Rain, Full Metal Alchemist, Angelic Layer, Ouran High School Host Club, and many more.)

From what I've learned from Soul Eater's creator, Atsushi Okubo, his inspiration for the art was Tim Burton, and you can easily tell that's the case when you first look at Death City. The art in the anime is spectacular. It's eye candy for me. Seriously. Bones definitely put a lot of effort into the artwork.

Characters:

I loved almost all of them, to be honest with you. Soul, Maka, Death the Kidd, Black Star, Tsubaki, Liz, Patti, Chrona, Ragnarok, Stein, Medusa, Spirit, Shinigami-Sama, Marie, Mifune, Blair, Excalibur (even if he's purposely the most annoying anime character in existence)...you get the idea.

My point is that all the characters were unique and different in their own ways and all very lovable.

The only character I didn't care about was Asura. Now I say this because besides the fact that he was the main antagonist of the series, he wasn't treated like one. Yes, he had a lot of powers. Yes, he defeated Shinigami in battle and made Death the Kidd want to get revenge, but I never felt that he was so horrible that he absolutely needed to die. I felt that in some ways, Medusa really took that role. Now as much as I liked her character because she's intelligent, charismatic, sinister, manipulative, scheming and powerful, but her actions were more hateful and cruel than what Asura had ever done. And what really irked me was that even though Maka and Stein defeated her in battle that lasted a couple of episodes, it felt all back seated compared to the inevitable fight against Asura.

Music:

Soul Eater's soundtrack is probably one of the best aspects of this anime. Especially the Openings. In fact, the first Opening of Soul Eater is very well-known amongst us Otakus.

All in all:

Soul Eater is a great anime for those who like action, comedy, adventure, and some drama with a good helping of epicness. Again, the only downfall the anime really has is that it doesn't have a solid villian.

Ghost Hunt

Plot: Mai is a normal, but orphaned high schooler. It starts out with Mai telling a horror story to friends and was interupted by a Kazuya Shibuya (Mai calls him Naru, because of his narcissistic personality), she soon learns that he is the president of the SPR (Shibuya Psychic Research...basically kinda like Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok.)

I had started this series, only a few days ago. I only watched the anime, but I have yet to read the novels and the manga. Anyway, here's my thoughts on the series.

For one, I really thought the artwork was excellent! I really thought they did a good job. Then, the plot was really good. It caught my attention instantly. For me, I've always liked the fantasy that involves either vampires or ghost (that's probably why I'm in love with xxxHolic and Vampire Knight.) I would also recommend this anime to those who like a scary anime (It wasn't terribly scary, but it was more than I could take...which isn't much.)

On the other hand, I wasn't crazy for Naru's personality. I know that the author purposely made him a jerk, but there was something about him that I wasn't crazy for (Although, I do like the pairing MaiXNaru.) Then, I was a little dissapointed that the plot didn't progress that much. I know of information that wasn't in the anime, making the anime a little shallow for my taste (although, late in the series they showed a little information about both Mai and Naru, but that was it.)

Well, all in all, I would give this a four out of five.
